Got my first shipment of author giveaways in the mail today. A true Crime Writer can’t give away boring old bookmarks. Nope…she gives away minature handcuffs with her business cards.
The Carnival Heist – Rio De Janeiro (Feb, 2006)
While Brazilians danced in the streets and partied, four well-armed gunmen broke into the Chacara do Ceu museum. It was a scene right out of Hollywood. They forced the employees to disconnect the alarm system, mugged a few tourists, and danced out into the Carnival with four paintings worth $20 million.
Here is a listing of the stolen artworks:
- Claude Monet, 1880-1890, Marine
- Pablo Picasso, 1956, Dance
- Salvador Dali, 1929, Two Balconies
- Henri Matisse, 1905, Luxembourg Garden
The thieves also stole a book by Pablo Picasso titled, “Toros.” Eleven years have past and the FBI is still searching for these items. If you have any information please contact your local FBI office.
